1980s Paintings

1978 – 1988

The work changed when I moved to Austin, Texas in 1977. After painting entrances and landscaped yards in varied ways in the San Francisco Bay Area, Texas’ local architectural structures, from swimming pools to cemeteries, porch furniture to apartment complexes, lead to years of new image fusions and the introduction of the figure. Exterior house structures, interior decor, and the natural local environment of rivers and limestone cliffs, became stage sets for themes of emotional, political, and natural turmoil. The paintings grew in scale to large canvases. Images mixed in collage formats, alluding to the life cycle, culture mimicking nature, and contrasts of sensuality and destruction.
